Celebrating a Quarter Century of Excellence: Juan Romero Named Edcouch-Elsa ISD's Secondary Teacher of the Year

This award recognizes Romero's outstanding contributions as a dedicated mathematics educator and athletic coach at Edcouch-Elsa High School. With an impressive 25-year tenure at EEISD, Romero exemplifies unwavering commitment and a strong passion for fostering academic success among his students.
Romero has not only embraced his role as a teacher but has also taken on the responsibility of a mentor, coach, and motivator. His mantra, "Once a Jacket, Always a Jacket," is a testament to his enduring loyalty and dedication to the district that has been instrumental in shaping his own educational journey.
He especially looks forward to teaching Algebra I, a subject that is a critical milestone for students and one that he finds particularly rewarding. "I find joy in working with students who may have faced challenges in the past, and watching them triumphantly conquer the STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) exam is an indescribable feeling," Romero shared during a recent interview.
His teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in the principles instilled by his mentors, Mr. Jose Gonzalez and Mr. Salvador Garza. These influential figures welcomed Romero into the profession when he was just 23 years old, providing him with invaluable guidance and shaping his unique teaching style. Romero's guiding belief, "Pride in Excellence," encapsulates his belief that pride empowers individuals to stand up for what they hold dear, while excellence is the pursuit of perfection.
