College Readiness Specialist, Lizette Gonzalez, Empowers Students for Future Success

Edcouch, Texas - October 23, 2023 - Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District (EEISD) is pleased to spotlight Lizette Gonzalez, a dedicated College Readiness Specialist with 20 years of experience guiding students through the critical transition from high school to higher education. Mrs. Gonzalez's unwavering commitment and passion have played a pivotal role in shaping the academic and professional journeys of countless students within the district.

Through her years of service, Mrs. Gonzalez has assisted students in overcoming obstacles, ranging from understanding the significance of the TSI test to encouraging tutoring and facilitating application drives. "There are plenty of success stories here at Edcouch-Elsa ISD! We have had students attend Ivy League schools, earn their Masters and Phd. degrees, and we will continue that," she affirmed.

Mrs. Gonzalez's unique role as a College Readiness Specialist extends beyond mere guidance; she fosters an understanding of the importance of lifelong learning and explores the myriad possibilities that exist beyond high school. Her efforts culminated in the organization of the recent College, Career, Military-Readiness Fair, a vibrant platform that welcomed 31 colleges, universities, trade/vocational schools, military representatives, and law enforcement opportunities for seniors to explore.

Fernando Lopez

Students like Fernando Lopez, a 12th grader, found invaluable resources at the fair. "I found a VAMOS scholarship, and yes, there are deadlines that I need to meet. I also saw a couple of military opportunities. I never really saw that as an option, but it's something extra to consider," he shared.

Rebecca Davila

Rebecca Davila, another senior, expressed her gratitude for the fair, saying, "I'd like to study animals and stay in Texas, so I was looking for veterinary studies. My real focus is the cost of living, and this fair gave me a perspective on how much it's all going to cost."

Aiden Rodriguez

Aiden Rodriguez, a senior, delved into the details, "My focus was on the qualifications needed for the programs and schools present here. I wanted to know more about housing and dorms - the application processes to the university, program of study, and housing all depend on qualifications."

Godiva Garcia

Godiva Garcia, another senior, left the fair feeling confident about her future plans. "This fair has made me more confident in knowing what tasks I need to complete. I know that there's one more CCMR Fair that we get to be part of in the Spring, so I know what I need to do before then."

Mrs. Lizette Gonzalez expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the team of dedicated individuals who support student achievement and preparation post high school: Mrs. Laura Olivarez, CTE Director; Mrs. Lydia Gonzalez; Mrs. Bianca Aguinaga; Mr. Elijah Jones; Mrs. Cynthia Ramirez, and Mrs. Diane Salinas.
