Senior violinist Melanie Hooks shared her excitement, stating, “This trip is more than just a performance; it's a pivotal moment in our lives. Being able to perform at Carnegie Hall is something we will cherish forever. The experience of playing in New York and exploring the city will be unforgettable. It’s a unique opportunity to perform and enjoy time with friends in such a historic place. Something I’m most looking forward to is standing on stage at Carnegie Hall and taking in everything that I can. From the audience to the lights to the faces of my classmates and how we will remember that feeling for the rest of our lives.”
Joslyn Gomes, also a senior violinist, expressed the group's pride, “To perform at Carnegie Hall, a venue that has hosted the world’s most renowned artists, is incredibly inspiring. It's a significant boost for the mariachi world and a personal milestone for all of us. I’m honestly just excited to be going to New York, since this is only my second time out of the state, but also to finish my senior year strong with a nice goodbye to my friends and the program.”
Josio Aldape, thoughtfully shared, “Going to New York and playing at Carnegie Hall isn’t just any ordinary trip. It is difficult for many people to get to New York, and even more to do what you love over there. This trip will be one to remember and will stick with me and all my classmates for our whole lives. I am mostly looking forward to touring the great city of New York and seeing the beautiful landscape. Being able to spend time in New York with my friends is definitely something I will enjoy!”
“We look forward to interviewing the students about this positive experience when they return so that we can continue to highlight the mariachi program and fuel interest in the arts program offerings that we have at Edcouch-Elsa ISD,” shared Dr. Jesse Fidelio Garza, Public Relations and Parental Outreach Administrator.
In preparation for their New York City performance, the Mariachi Juvenil Azteca prepared fundraising efforts to support their travel. A Mother’s Day Concert also took place on May 10th featuring guest artist Lucky Joe.
