Edcouch-Elsa ISD Celebrates Alumni Spotlight: Elizabeth "Liz" Salinas Heading to Italy
Liz is a dedicated athlete with My Morning Star Adult Day Care, which serves young adults with special needs from across Hidalgo and Cameron Counties. The participants engage in various sports offered by Special Olympics Texas, and Liz's passion and perseverance have led her to an incredible opportunity—she has earned a spot on Special Olympics USA’s floorball team. This achievement marks a historic moment for the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) as Liz is the first athlete from our region to join the national team for the sport of Traditional Floorball.
“Liz is the perfect alumni to kickstart our spotlight series this academic year. She is the definition of Pride in Excellence: Go For Gold, our theme this year, because she represents gratitude, humility, kindness, and is a role model for our younger generation. If you dream it and believe it- you can accomplish it!” Dr. Jesse Fidelio Garza, Public Relations Administrator shared.
The Special Olympics USA has officially introduced its athletes and coaches who will travel to Turin, Italy, to compete in the Special Olympics World Games. The announcement video is available on YouTube under "Special Olympics USA Delegation Announcement Turin 2025."
Liz’s accomplishment is not just a personal victory but a proud moment for Edcouch-Elsa ISD, the City of Pharr, My Morning Star Adult Day Care, the RGV, and the state of Texas. We are thrilled to support and celebrate Liz as she represents our community and country on the world stage.
