Kids Against Hunger

Edcouch-Elsa ISD’s Human Services program will proudly partner with Kids Against Hunger – Rio Grande Valley for a powerful day of service and community impact on Friday, April 4, 2025. With the energy and compassion of high school Career & Technical Education (CTE) students, staff, and volunteers, the event will lead with the packaging and delivery of 62 cases of food — that’s over 2,200 meal kits — benefiting the RGV Food Bank and local food pantries in Edcouch, Elsa, and surrounding communities.

The event will be held at the Edcouch-Elsa High School’s Capello Gym and be led by Mrs. Mirayda Cerda, Human Services Advisor and certified Community Health Worker. This marks the second year Mrs. Cerda has successfully brought Kids Against Hunger and EEISD together for a united mission to fight food insecurity across the Rio Grande Valley.

Throughout the day, students from various CTE programs — including Human Services, Culinary Arts, Community Health Workers (CHW), DECA, Law, ROTC, and Fire Academy — will work in coordinated assembly lines. They will sanitize, pack, and organize nutritious meals destined for families in need.

Special thanks are extended to event sponsors and collaborators:

• Trinity Lutheran, Mission, TX

• Food Bank RGV

• New Life Community Church

• Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Elsa)

• St. Theresa Catholic Church (Edcouch)

Each church will receive 10 boxes containing 36 food packages, contributing to a broader local impact.

“We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for the generosity of our community partners,” said Mrs. Cerda. “These experiences will teach our students the value of service and the impact they can have in the lives of others.”

The event will also feature remarks and instructions from Ray Siegel, Director of Kids Against Hunger – RGV, who emphasized the importance of youth involvement in humanitarian efforts.

Edcouch-Elsa ISD remains committed to fostering leadership, compassion, and service through real-world learning experiences like these.
